Swiss Date-Time Roman Lettering (1901, Throndsen)

Two date-time stamping cancellers were delivered to Kristiania PO on November 30th. These had, in the spirit of beautifying experiments, Roman lettering. Only small details tell them apart.

Thanks to the stikes found in the order books of engraver Hellik Rui, who was handed the cancellers in the recall operation in connection with the name change in 1924/25, it is possible to trace their fate until 31 December 1924. (Hits: 593)

Low Rider (2)
The name "Low Rider" is so termed in order to distinguish it from its sibling. The "High Rider" has KRISTIANIA begin and end a further distance from the upper bridge.

Another method of distinction is to count and notice the placement, relative to the star, of the bars in the lower comb.

31 XII 24 10E reads the date of the strike found in engraver Hellik Ruis order book following the recall in 1925.

High Rider (9)
This became one of the workhorses of the PO. While its sibling is rarely seen, this one got beaten black and blue, literally, and was re-engraved sometime in its teens.

The name "High Rider" is so termed in order to distinguish it from its sibling. The "Low Rider" has KRISTIANIA begin and end a closer distance to the upper bridge.
