Single Circle Roman (1858)

Two of these postmarks were delivered in late 1858, possibly as late as December. The first notice of them, is a correspondence between the postmaster of Xania and the postal department regarding the price which the postmaster had paid for them directly to the engraver, possibly named Buch, and not the one currently favored by the authorities. The price was 6 speciedaler; the same as the autorities could supply them for. The third cancel is a bit tricky, being smaller, and belonging to the postal department's own orders. It was assumably delivered in 1859, but is rarely seen before 1868-ish. All of these would have roman numerals, but replacements appear to have been sans-serif, which arguably was cheaper to manufacture. (Hits: 648)

Type 5 (4)
Named Type 5 by Norgeskatalogen. Appears initially in blue, but blue was abandoned by a decree just a few weeks after its delivery, when black became the reigning color for Norwegian postmarks (and still is... supposed to be).
Type 6 (5)
Assumed to have been delivered at the same time as Type 5 by engraver Buch of Christiana.
Type 7 (2)
Ordered by the postal authorities in spring 1858, as part of an order for 41 cancels to various POs and postal expeditions. Most of these were shipped by the authorities on 10th December 1858. Each cancel had 43 numeral types and 6 blind types. [Langangen, NFT1/87 p 18].
