Mmm, we've always been walking a lot in Norway... and from 1896 there would be messengers walking the whole day - up in the morning and down in the evening - to the rural areas.

Officially opened on 1898-07-01. The postal route Kristiania-Holmenkollen would run three times a day with a postal clerk riding shotgun ('postledsager'); only once a day on Sundays and official holidays.
Announced in Circular 21 (1898-06-30).
Apparently the first postmark had the name misspelled, and the corrected pm was delivered mid July.
